Lewis "Bud" Wade

Bud Wade, 94, died in Jackson, Miss., on Monday, Dec. 5, 2005. Mr. Wade was born in Ardmore on the Fourth of July, 1911. His parents Lee Wad and Effie Wamshire Wade, were officers of the Salvation Army.

He grew up in Cushing, and earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Oklahoma A&M. He was an outstanding varsity basketball player at A&M. He was the leading scorer in the Missouri Valley Conference in his senior year.

He married Doris Heideman of Cushing in 1929. Through the years they were blessed with two children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

After several years coaching and teaching in Glencoe, Kaw City and Webb City, Okla., schools, he joined Gulf Oil Corporation in 1942. He was a business administrator and worked in Gulf's Tulsa and Oklahoma City headquarters, as well as several offices in Kansas and Indiana. In the early '60's he was transferred to Jackson and retired there in 1972.

After his retirement, he became an accomplished golfer and served the game as an officer of the Mississippi Senior Golf Association with responsibility for statewide tournament administration. He was a longtime member of Briarwood United Methodist Church in Jackson.

His beloved Doris died and was laid to rest at Ames (Okla.) Cemetery in 1996. He married Peggy Dehmer of Jackson in the spring of 2000. His extended family will be forever grateful to Peggy and her daughter, Cindy Peoples and Pam Smith, for the happiness, love, and care they gave him during his sunset years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris; his brothers, Leroy and Henry; his sister Leola Phillips and his grandson John Rex Rundle.

Surviving are his widow, Peggy Dehmer Wade; his daughter and son-in-law, Dick and Joan Rundle, Dallas; his Son, Lew Wade, Tulsa; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and seven step-children.

A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Jim Nance at Ames Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec 18, 2005. A graveside ceremony will follow at Ames cemetery.
