Funeral services for Leon DeHaas, 86-year-old Ames resident will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Henn inger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Cody Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Ames Cemetery under the direction of Henn inger-Allen Funeral Home.

Leon was born June 5, 1921, in eastern Major County the son of Samuel and Vivian (Pearson) DeHaas and died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Fairview Regional Medical Center.

He was raised and lived by the railroad tracks in the Ames area most of his life.

He graduated from Drummond High School.

On May 24, 1942, he married Ruby Fyffe in Conway, S.C.

He farmed, did mechanic work and was a custom harvester.

He continued to help with the family farm after his retirement at age 62.

His hobby of pickup pulls enabled him to continue his knowledge of mechanics in building and driving in competition all over the southern states.v He was a member of American Legion Jaynes-Kennedy Post 340.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby DeHaas, of the home; two daughters, Karen Barnes and her husband Bill of Ames, and Sheila Bisel and her husband Darin of Canon City, CO; one son, Daryl DeHaas and his wife Roby of Ames; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, JoAnn Wallace and her husband Mark of Alex, OK; three brothers, Kenneth DeHaas and his wife Jenny of Smyrna, GA, Bill DeHaas of Ames, and Jim DeHaas of Fort Worth, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois Yates and Betty Muir; and two brothers, Duane and Vyron DeHaas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzheimer's division, or Ames Fire Department with Henninger-Allen Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
