Joe W. Brockway

The funeral for Joe W. Brockway, 98, formerly of Cleo Springs, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Revs. Connie Schlarb and Roy Wahlgren will officiate. Burial will be in Cleo Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Family will receive friends at the home of Jack and Connie Schlarb, Cleo Springs, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and before the service at the church Tuesday. He was born July 31, 1907, near Kinsley, Kan., to George Washington and Amarella Allen Brockway and died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Hillcrest Manor, Blackwell. .

He graduated from Cleo High School in 1925. He married Ida Jane Mellor Jan. 5, 1930. She preceded him in death. .

He was a member of First Christian Church, Cleo Springs, serving many years as an elder, Sunday school teacher and treasurer of the church. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, Past Master of Cleo Springs Masonic Lodge and a Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and served as business manager of the Enid local for several years..

Surviving are two sons, Stanley of Huntsville, Ala., and Laurence of Belle Plaine, Kan.; one daughter, Toni Purdy of Blackwell; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren..

In addition to his wife, Ida, he was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, three sisters and two half-brothers..

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Cleo Springs First Christian Church, or Faith Hospice, Blackwell. .
