New Hopedale Cemetery



Olen Ivan Unruh passed away Monday, August 17th, 2015 at the age of 89. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry and a graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the New Hopedale Mennonite Church Cemetery in Meno, OK. Public visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 20th from 9am to 6pm.

Olen was born October 12, 1925 in Meno, Oklahoma to Irving and Ida (Koehn) Unruh. He grew up on the farm north of Meno. He graduated from Lahoma High School in 1945. He served in the US Marine Corp and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Bernice Ruth Jantz on October 18, 1945 in Wellington, Kansas. They moved to Conroe, Texas where he worked for Humble Oil Company for a number of years. In 1960, they purchased a farm in Noble County north of Perry, Oklahoma. They lived on and worked the land for nearly 40 years. Olen also built homes with his brother, Leland, and ran an oil field/salt water service.

Olen is survived by one son, Gary Unruh of Yale, Oklahoma and his wife Theresa, three grandsons: Jeremy Unruh and his wife Corie, Bradley Unruh and his wife Kayla, and Jon Pritchett and his wife Paloma. He has two great grand-children, Kennedy and Parker, and one sister-in-law Verbia Unruh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Ida Unruh; two sons, Steven and Spencer Unruh; two brothers, Leroy and Leland Unruh; and his wife, Bernice Ruth Unruh.
