New Hopedale Cemetery


Funeral services for Marlin R. Unruh, 66, North Enid, will be 2 PM Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at New Hopedale Mennonite Memorial Cemetery, Meno. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

Marlin was born February 15, 1936, near Meno to Harold K. and Leona B. Koehn Unruh and died at his home, Saturday, October 5, 2002.

He attended Cozy Palace and Star Center Schools near Meno and Enid high school. He served in Rapid City, South Dakota with the Army. On April 19, 1967 he married Carole Stranghoner. The couple made their home here. In 1961 Marlin started Enid Electric Motor Service with Ernie Wallace which is still in operation today.

He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Planning Commission of North Enid Township, Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Association, Enid Antique Power Club, Enid Antique Auto Club.

Marlin is survived by his wife, Carole of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Unruh of North Bend, Oregon, Tabitha Simon and her husband, Scott of Enid, Michelle Rahman and her husband, Mohammed of Oklahoma City; his mother, Leona Unruh of Enid; three brothers, Maynard Unruh of Guthrie, Dean Unruh and his wife, Marsha of Enid, Merle Unruh of Enid; one grandson, Brandon Unruh.

He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, Marlyn Kay Unruh and his sister – in – law, Mary Unruh.

Memorials may be made to the church youth ministry or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Adenocarcinoma Research with Henninger – Allen Funeral Home acting as custodians for the funds.

Marlin was a fan of NASCAR and an avid collector of antiques and collectibles. He was noted for maintaining a beautiful yard. Marlin was an honest, trustworthy, outspoken and hard-working man of integrity.
