New Hopedale Cemetery


Gusta Helen Ratzlaff, 92, was born Nov. 27, 1914, to Henry L. and Agnes (Hauck) Jantzen near Watova, OK. She was called home to heaven Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Golden Oaks Village Nursing Center in Enid, OK.

She was one of eight children. Throughout her childhood her family moved many times, living in Oklahoma and Kansas. She graduated high school from Weatherford and was also baptized in Weatherford at the Methodist Church in 1929. After high school she worked as an assistant to Dr. Fred Schlichting until April 1936 when she and Norman D. Ratzlaff were married. They made their home east of Meno and farmed there for the next 47 years. In 1983 they moved into Meno and lived there until 1994 at which time she moved into Golden Oaks Retirement Village in Enid.

She was a member of New Hopedale Mennonite Church in Meno and was active in the Ladies Mission Circle, teaching Sunday school and the Church Historical Committee.

She is survived by two sons, Merlyn Ratzlaff and his wife Clara of Angel Fire, NM, and Bob Ratzlaff and his wife Jane of Grove, OK; two brothers, Rudie of Bartlesville, OK, and Clarence of Alabama; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Ratzlaff; two brothers, Carl and Paul; three sisters, Emma (Bergen), Agnes (Neufeld) and Berniece (Powers).

The burial ceremony will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, in New Hopedale Mennonite Church Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in Enid at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. James Suderman and Norman “Shorty” Unruh will officiate. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 17, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to New Hopedale Mennonite Church or Oklahoma Bible Academy Scholarship Fund with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
