ORVAL DEAN WEIDNER

The funeral for Orval Dean Weidner, 71, of Ames, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ames Baptist Church. The Revs. Jim Nance, Jacob Snodgrass and Steve Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Isabella Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was born Oct. 21, 1935, on the family farm near Ames to Johnnie and Bertha Sink Odey Weidner and died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He grew up on a dairy farm near Ames and graduated from Ames High School.

He married Maxine Stambaugh Jan. 31, 1953. He lived in Cheney, Kan., and Lincoln, Neb., working as a dairy herdsman. He moved to Wichita, Kan., where he worked 19 years at Bertholf Dairy. He returned to Ames and worked 10 years at Fred and Gerald Detrick’s Dairy and 10 years at Sproul Dairy, Isabella. He worked 15 years for Oklahoma State Highway Department, division 6. He was a member of Ames Baptist Church and was a night watchman 35 years for Major County Livestock Show, Fairview. He was an honorary FFA member, Cub Scout leader and baseball league umpire.

Surviving are his wife, Maxine of the home; two sons, Joe and Gary, both of Ames; three daughters, Norvella Simons of Ames, Brenda Harrison of Goltry and Lynda Mosier of Lahoma; 17 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a twin brother.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Ames Baptist Church or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, heart division.
