John Louis Nightengale, son of Benjamin T. and Katie Nightengale was born June 24, 1891 in Durham, Marion Co, Kansas. He departed this life on August 3, 1952 while in route to an Enid Oklahoma hospital at the age of 61 years.
When he was about 3 years old, he came to Major County Oklahoma with his parents
and settled on a farm 2 miles east of Fairview. He attended school in Fairview and later graduated from the Salt Lake City Business College in Hutchinson Kansas. April 20, 1917 he was united in marriage to Katie Eck of Fairview Oklahoma. Five children were born to this union: 2 sons and 3 daughters.
They lived in Washington D.C. where he was employed by the U S Treasury for six years and later returned to Fairview where he worked for various businesses including Home Equipment (later named Fairview Lumber) and F. V. Morris Agency (later Dague Agency). He also operated a Commercial Night School in the early 1930’s. He worked for the Fairview Building for six years and served for a time as Deputy Treasurer of Major County. He returned to Washington DC and served as a Civil Service Employee in the General Land Office for five years. After his return to his home 4 miles east of Cleo Springs, he taught commerce at Cleo Springs High School during the 2 ½ years of war emergency. The last seven years of his life he had been doing income tax returns at Fairview besides taking care of his farm interests.
He leaves behind to mourn his wife of the home; 5 children : Mrs. Waldo Ratzlaff of Fairview Oklahoma, John A. Nightengale of Glenrock Wyoming, Julian Nightengale of Cleo Springs Oklahoma, Mrs. Tom H Robb Jr. of Richmond Texas, and Judith Nightengale of Fairview Oklahoma; three darling granddaughters and six sisters and three brothers as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
