Funeral services for Bernice Justine (Suderman) Karber, 86, were Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, in the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. The Rev. Gary Janzen officiated. Burial followed in the South Mennonite Brethren Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
Bernice Justine (Suderman) Karber was born July 10, 1919, to Gerhard and Anna (Loewen) Suderman and passed away Dec. 16, 2005, in the Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid. She was born and raised in Hillsboro, Kan. She attended Ebenfield Grade School. Bernice was baptized into the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church in May of 1932. She graduated from Tabor Academy in May 1938.She met Albert Karber at a church singspiration and they began a nine month courtship. They were married on July 27, 1941 at Hillsboro. Daughter Elaine Joyce was born in Nov. 1942. Shortly after her birth, Albert was called to do Civilian Public Service. Bernice and Elaine joined him in Colorado Springs, Colo. The end of the war sent the family back to Fairview to continue farming.
Their son Charles Edward was born in 1947. He died at birth, almost claiming Bernice's life as well. In 1958 a son, Curtis Dwight was born, During Bernice's younger days, Bernice enjoyed sewing and cooking.
Bernice is survived by one son, Curtis Karber and his wife Debbie of Fairview; one daughter, Elaine Franz and her husband John of Buhler, Kan.; one brother Eli Suderman of Hillsboro, Kan.; one sister Irene Siebel also of Hillsboro; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert Karber, one son, Charles Edward Karber in 1947, one brother Jonas Suderman and two sisters, Alma Jost and Anna Siemens.
Memorials may be made through the funeral hoe to the Fairview Fellowship Home.
