The funeral for Erven Theodore Ewald, 84, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. The Revs. Gary Janzen and James Suderman will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Fairview to Edward and Esther Epp Ewald and died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Fairview Fellowship Home, Fairview.
He moved with his family to Cleveland, Ohio, at a young age before returning to Fairview to attend school. At age 17 he moved to California to work, returning to Fairview to work on his uncle A.W. Epp's farm. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, in the Medical Corps in both the African and European Theaters in World War II.
He married Lovella Bernice Patzkowsky April 28, 1946, at Fairview South Mennonite Brethren Church. They lived in Fairview, where he worked for U.S. Gypsum at Southard. In 1948, he bought Farmers Service Station, later changing the name to Ewald's Oil and Gas and in 1980 Ewald's Tire and Service Center. He retired in 1986.
He served as a member of the board at Fairview Fellowship Home and Fairvew Municipal Hospital. He was a member of Fairview Lions Club, Fairview Chamber of Commerce and Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church, where he served as an usher, trustee and church treasurer.
Surviving are his wife, Lovella; three sons, Keeven Ewald, Rodean Ewald and Bradley Ewald, all of Fairview; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Gideon's International or the charity of donor's choice.
