Sylvia Kathryn Reames was born January 10, 1910 in Illinois to Cassius and Emma Jane (Kesler) Hodge and passed away August 29, 2006 at the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview, Oklahoma.

Sylvia was born in Illinois, and with her family moved to Kansas as a very young child and then moved to Orienta, Oklahoma. She attended school at Cleo Springs, until the bridge washed out and she could no longer make the trip to school. Sylvia married Ora “Shorty” Reames on December 4, 1929 in Fairview. The happy couple lived in Fairview for a short while after the wedding and then moved to Isabella, Oklahoma. Sylvia and Shorty then settled on a farm near Isabella. They were blessed with one son, Orlis Reames. Sylvia worked in the home caring for her family. After the passing of her husband, Shorty in 1959, she began to work outside the home. Sylvia was a cook at the Isabella School until it closed and merged with Progressive School. Though they offered her a job at Progressive, Sylvia declined and took at job as a dorm mother at OCC. After one year at OCC, she returned to Isabella and started working at the Okeene Rest Home, retiring from there in the early 1970’s. Sylvia loved to garden, sew and particularly enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of two different bridge clubs and the Home Demonstration Club. Sylvia was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Okeene. She loved her family, doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by all who love her.

She is survived by her son, Orlis Reames and wife Sarah of Isabella; two grandsons, Bret Reames and Darin Reames; three great grandchildren Braden, Sydney, and Mallory Reames; and three step-great-grandchildren, Lacey, Clint, and Jessi Roquemore.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband Shorty; seven brothers and four sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to O.M.R.F: Cancer
