Cedar Cemetery


Fairview – The funeral for Alfred Unruh, 76, will be 11 AM Saturday at Central Christian Church. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Schwartz will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Visitation will be 5 to 9 PM today at the funeral home.

He was born September 8, 1924, in Verden to John Unruh and Dora Nightengale Unruh and died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at his son's home in Gratis, Ohio.

He moved with his family several times until they settled in Isabella, where he attended school. He enlisted in the army at age 18 and was stationed in Alaska. He was discharged in 1945.

He married Doris Justina Franzen March 17, 1946, in Goessel, Kansas. They lived in Oklahoma and Kansas and later moved to Ohio where he worked for the Ohio Transportation Department. He retired after 31 years as an inspector for that department.

He was active in the Lower Miami Church of the Brethren of Dayton, Ohio.

They moved to Fairview in 1992, where he was active and was a lifetime Deacon (Deacon Ameritus) at Central Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Doris of Fairview; a son, Michael Unruh of Gratis, Ohio; one daughter, Janet Bornemann of Fairview; two brothers, Marvin of Tonkawa and Oval of Okeene; two sisters, Luella Pierce of Ponca City and Anna Mack Wedel of Ringwood; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, and three brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Central Christian Church.
