Authrene Nightingale
March 9, 1938 - January 26, 2024

Authrene Wedel Nightingale was born March 9, 1938 to Arthur and Dena (Schmidt) Wedel at Isabella, Oklahoma. She went to her eternal rest on January 26, 2024 at the Fairview Fellowship Home, Fairview, Oklahoma.

She often talked about her memories of growing up with a large family of brothers and sisters and the happy times they had together on the family farm. She received the first three years of her education at Elm Grove School, and the next five at Standard School, both close to the Isabella community. Authrene accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on March 19, 1950, by Minister Harry Wenger. Mom had a deep commitment to the Lord and the Church. She remained faithful to her vows for the rest of her life. She was joined in marriage to Ernest Nightingale at Fairview, Oklahoma on December 30, 1956 by Minister George Nichols. They shared 65 wonderful years together and were blessed with three boys and many grandchildren and great grand-children. Mom was a praying Mother and often encouraged her children and grandchildren to be faithful.

She was a lover of song and shared this joy in many ways. Singing with her family and in church was a special blessing in her life. She spent many hours at home singing, especially out of her hymnal. During the early years of their married life she supplemented their income by ironing for people in the community. Dad was engaged in custom harvesting, and Mom supported him by following the crew, cooking and caring for them for approximately 30 years. Mom was a lover of nature, spending time bird watching, caring for her flowers, and enjoying the companionship of her cat. She loved the art of crocheting, each of her children and grandchildren received one or two of her beautiful creations. Mom loved her friends and spent many evenings visiting with them.

Those left with precious memories are her two sons, Steve and Judy Nightingale and Doug and Kim Nightingale, both of Isabella, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Mitchell and Laurie Nightingale of Fairview, Oklahoma; Lydia and Weston Becker of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania; Vaughn and Kendra Nightingale; Luke and Sheila Nightingale; Eric and Shelley Nightingale, all of Fairview, Oklahoma; Brandt Nightingale of Isabella, Oklahoma, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; their infant son James; her parents; one brother and all six of her sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite with interment to follow at Cedar Cemetery south of Fairview, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Christian School with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 15 Fairview, Oklahoma 73737. Condolences may be made at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
