July 14, 1926 - March 13, 2019

Glenda B. Johnson was born July 14, 1926 in Ames to R. Jace and Olive (Cochran) Downs. She left to be with our Lord March 13, 2019, at the age of 92.

Glenda worked hard all her life at various jobs such as Café, Grocery Store and Cooper Garden where she hoed cotton. For seventeen years, she worked at the school lunch room until the school closed in 1992.

Glenda married John Gregory. To this union, three children were born: LaJohna, Richard and Janet. Glenda later divorced and married Jim Johnson. To this union, one son, Jimmy Dale, was born. She raised four wonderful children and was very proud of them.

Glenda always kept a birthday calendar and sent many cards over the years. She also kept a diary most of her life so anyone could ask what happened on a particular date and Glenda always had an answer. She was a very giving person who never wanted anything in return and was an excellent friend to everyone.

She enjoyed cooking but her specialty was birthday cakes. She made numerous cakes over the years and always decorated them in the fashion of the time. Glenda collected clocks, had many cardinal statues and music boxes. Glenda was very good at decorating for the holidays at her house.

Proudly, Glenda was a sixty year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Glenda is survived by her husband, Jim; children, LaJohna Stiff of Edmond, Janet Steele of Burleson, TX and Jimmy Dale Johnson and wife, Arlene of Enid; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous extended family.

Her mother passed away on Thanksgiving Day when Glenda was only four years old. She is also preceded in death by her father, brother, four sisters and son, Richard.

The graveside service for Glenda will be 11:00am Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Ames Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

The family requests donations be made to American Legion Auxiliary or Hospice Circle of Love with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
