Services for Alpha O. "Midge" Young, 92, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with Bro. David Harendt officiating.
Mrs. Young was born May 10, 1912, at Shay, the daughter of Lee and Myrtle Scott Runnels. She died Sunday, October 10, 2004, at Elmbrook Home, Ardmore.
She moved to Courtney in 1929, where she and her husband farmed and ranched. She and George T. "Tommy" Young were married December 24, 1929, in Madill, and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1999. The couple had been residents of Marietta since 1982. A homemaker, Mrs. Young quilted and was a gardener. She was a longtime member of the Petersburg Home Demonstration Club, and a member of the Courtney First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Haskell and Sandy Young of Houston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Edwin Smith of Burkburnett, Texas, and Kathie and Charles Taliaferro of Stillwater; two brothers, Kenneth Runnels of Phoenix, and Glenn Runnels of Whittier, California; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Young was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Tommy Joe Young in 1942; three brothers; and four sisters.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Edwin Smith Jr., Brent Taliaferro, Jason Taliaferro and Ricky Cook, along with Harold Lester and Gene Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were Tankie Spivey, Mark Weatherly, Cotton Grant and Larry Blankenship.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Belleville-Bourland Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.
