Services for W.B. "Bill" Looney, 90, of Marietta were Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Marietta Church of Christ with Bro. Floyd Johnson officiating.
Born July 7, 1909, at Burneyville, the son of Dr. M.D. and Euna B. Burney Looney, he died August 9, 1999, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
Mr. Looney graduated from Burneyville High School in 1926, and attended the University of Oklahoma. The Looney family moved to Marietta in 1929. Mr. Looney married the former Mildred Brooks on December 24, 1933, and she preceded him in death on January 29, 1982. In 1934, Mr. Looney was elected Love County Treasurer, an office he held until retiring in 1942 to join the U.S. Army Air Corps in which he served during World War II. In 1947, Mr. Looney returned to the family home site at Burneyville, living there until 1974 when he and his family returned to Marietta to make their home.
He married his second wife, Ruth L. Prichard on September 11, 1982, and she preceded him in death on May 23, 1985. Mr. Looney married his third wife, Oleta Hicks on April 19, 1986. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1990.
Mr. Looney later retired from farming and ranching. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Marietta and the Burch Brothers Post #136 of the American Legion. A 32nd Degree Mason, Mr. Looney was a 40 year member of the Love County Excise Board and a current Board member of the Brannan Charitable Trust for the Love County Health Center.
Mr. Looney was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Peggy Curran.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Joe Shinn of Houston, Texas; three granddaughters, Julianna Shinn of Houston, Mandi and Todd Liddell of Keller, Texas, and Polly and Perry Monaco of Tulsa; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Brooks Liddell and Reagan Gail Liddell; a niece, Cheron and Clint Adams of Dallas, Texas; and a great-niece, Kristi and Travis Taylor of Austin, Texas.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery directed by Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Phillip Birdsall, Jerry Kerr, Perry Monaco, John Yarbrough, Todd Liddell and Tim Hicks. Honorary bearers included Dude Riley, Jerry Cowan, Joe Rowe, Bob Brock, Todd Hicks, Claude Brannan, Dr. J.T. O'Connor, Jr., Bill Shankles, Gene Shepard, Fletcher Coble and Toby Hicks.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
