CECIL MAE HILL KIMBRIEL
Nov. 23, 1911 - Jan 11, 2005
Services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial
Chapel, 2729 Panama Ln., Friday, January 14, 2005, at
10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held today, January 13
from 12:00 - 9:00 p.m. After battling heart disease
our spry, feisty, wonderful Cecil Mae Hill Kimbriel
reluctantly passed away. Elder Harold Foster will
officiate.
Cecil was born in Jimtown, Oklahoma on November 23,
1911 to Jess and Lula Powell. She was the second
oldest of seven. Living through the depression, being
caught up in the "Dust Bowl," trekking across the
Midwest with her newly wed husband, Otis Hill, in
their 1929 Whippit (yes, with a mattress tied to the
top) finally ending up in Tulare, California in 1934.
Otis, Cecil and their two sons moved to Bakersfield in
1944 to run a trucking company, a motel and a farm on
Brimhall and Calloway. Only married 18 short years
Otis passed away leaving Cecil to raise the boys and
to run the farm by herself. In 1961, twelve years
after Otis passed away, Cecil married her best friend,
Ray Kimbriel. Ray passed away four years later,
leaving Cecil to continue running the farm as well as
managing the cafeteria at Bank of America. Staying
with Bank of America for 26 years at the young age of
65 she decided to retire to run the farm. She sold
the property in 1978 after 34 years of farming. She
continued working at her son and daughter-in-law's
business until she decided to retire at the age of 91.
She is survived by her two sisters, Nelly Williams and
Ethel and her husband, Herman Anderson; her two sons,
Dr. Wayne Hill and wife, Annette and Donald Hill and
wife, Lynne; five grandchildren and their spouses,
Gary and Kathleen Hill, Elie and Lori Feghali, Darrin
and Ande Hill, Craig and Melissa Hill and Tracey and
Jason Burke; and 15 great grandchildren. She is
preceded in death by her husbands, Otis and Ray;
grandson, Kevin Hill; her parents; and four brothers.
The family would like to give a very special "thank
you, thank you" for the wonderful staff at the
Bakersfield Heart Hospital. Their friendship and
special care meant a lot to Cecil.
"Mom/Grandma Cecil you sure will be missed. We Love
You!!"
