Graveside services for Bill Joe Simpson, 89, of Velma were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 24 at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta with Reverend Mike Johnston officiating and Reverend Jason Williams assisting.

Born May 18, 1932 at Marietta, the son of Joe Bailey and Beulah Mae Simons Simpson, he died Saturday, November 20, 2021 at his residence.
 
Bill was raised in Marietta, graduating from Marietta High School in 1951. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Ruby Ola Terrill on January 1, 1952 in Shamrock, Texas and together they were blessed with two children, Mark and Deonna. Bill owned and operated three First National Banks in Fairland, Locust Grove and Chelsea. He loved training horses and was a five-time cutting horse champion. He was a member of the Countyline Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruby Simpson on February 18, 2018.

Survivors include his children, Deonna Unell and husband Dr. Alan Unell and Mark Simpson and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Mariah Douthit and husband Devin, Jacklyn Kirk and husband Doug, Jessica Simpson, Mikey Simpson, and Adam Ogle and wife Carre; great-grandchildren, Dani Jo Douthit, Carlee Mae Douthit, Ryder Ralph Douthit, Avery Kirk and Jack Kirk; special friend, Marybeth McGuire; cousins, Tommy Choate, Orval Simpson, Jr., Danny Simpson, and Arlene Jones; and a host of other family and friends.

Honorary bearers were Alan Unell, Tommy Choate, Devin Douthit, James Layn, Dale Reynolds, Bruce Lynn, L.D. Keenan, Jim Burton, and Jimmy Thompson.
