Carleta Mae Kellogg

Born: July 07, 1932
Died: November 15, 2011

Carleta Mae (McCracken) Kellogg was born July 7, 1932 to Clara Mae and Dennis Hugh McCracken in Ames, Oklahoma. She went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2011 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Carleta grew up on a wheat and cattle farm southwest of Ames with older brother, Bill, and younger sister, Ida Lavell “Sandy”. She was baptized at the age of eight in the Ames Church of Christ. She graduated from Ames High School in 1950 and married Vance Allen Kellogg November 1, 1953. They were married 49 years and had two children - Dennis Allen Kellogg and Joe Randall “Randy” Kellogg.

Vance and Carleta lived in Drummond, Oklahoma where Vance was a vocational agriculture teacher until 1955 when they moved to Guthrie.

Vance and Carleta took over the family wheat and cattle farm and dairy operation. Carleta was a busy farm wife working alongside Vance taking care of the home and helping with the farm. They raised Dennis and Randy on the family farm and attended Harmony Community Church.

Dennis Allen Kellogg died March 25, 1971 from a motorcycle accident. Carleta and Vance dedicated a facility on their farm for Guthrie FFA students who had no place to keep cattle or sheep livestock projects and were active with this facility until Randy’s graduation in 1977.

In 1979 they sold out of the dairy business, but Carleta continued to work tirelessly, this time as a campaign worker for Vance as he began his career as Logan County Commissioner. She also worked at the Guthrie Job Corps and later at Fogarty School where she had duties as Secretary for Principle Bob Murray and then worked in the library. She later worked at Guthrie High School as a Library Assistant until her retirement in May 1999.

Carleta was preceded in death by her father, son Dennis, her mother, and husband Vance. She is survived by her son Randy and wife Melody of Guthrie, grandsons Michael and Elias, brother Bill McCracken and wife Nell of Mustang, Oklahoma, sister Sandy and husband Steve of Palestine, Texas, and many other caring family members and friends including her church families: Ames Church of Christ, Harmony Community Church, and First Christian Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2011 at First Christian Church with Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Seward Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be Thursday, 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Guthrie Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 371, Guthrie, OK 73044. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.smithgallo.com
