Thursday evening of last week a party of negroes drove into Fleener's camp yard to stop for the night. Among them was Matthew Campbell of Springvale township. About ten o'clock in the night, supposedly, Campbell suffered an attack of asthma, to which disease he was subject, and in a fit of coughing expired, choking to death. The man's sudden death frightened his companions so badly that they got up and left town without caring for the dead man, or telling anything concerning him. It was found how, however, that he had a wife and some children living near Springvale postoffice, and that they were very poor. Citizens here in Mulhall took hold of the matter and gave the man a decent burial. Deputy Sheriff George Buchele telephoned Sheriff Rinehart, who advised that the man be taken care of here at county expense, as the family could not do it. County Commissioner Estus instructed Undertaker Rotterman to take charge of the remains, and this was done. They were buried in Mulhall cemetery on Friday afternoon.
