Wallace Margaret Major

Born: May 09, 1930
Died: July 17, 2011

Wallace Margaret Major died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the age of 81. She was a resident at the Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry, OK. She was born near Marshall, OK on May 9, 1930 to Verna Mae and Ralph Burris Griffey. Wallace attended Marshall School and on November 7, 1948 she married Virgil Leroy Major. They settled west of Orlando, OK and remained in the community their entire lives. Besides raising two sons, their home was always open to many nieces and nephews who looked forward to spending their summers with Aunt Wallace and Uncle Virgil. Wallace was involved with the First Baptist Church of Mulhall, OK and with the Good Neighbors Home Demonstration Club. She was also a talented quilter and quilted several hundred quilts over the years to help supplement their farm income. Although she was born with little and never acquired much, she was filled with compassion and always ready to share whatever she had with others.

Wallace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a twin sister Jennie Haight, two other sisters Irene Speaker and Rachael Burchardt, three brothers Paul Griffey, Merle Griffey, and James Griffey, and a brother who died as an infant, William.

Wallace is survived by her two sons Dale Major and his wife Cheryl of Orlando, OK and Terry Major and companion Sheila Stark of Stillwater, OK; four grandchildren Shelly Clemons of Guthrie, OK, Greg Major and his wife Jennifer of Houston, TX, Sondra (Major) White and her husband Phil of Stillwater, and Michael Major and his wife Paula of Ripley, OK; two great-grandchildren Justin Clemons of Edmond, OK and Rena Major of Houston, TX; one sister Ellen Cox of Ponca City, OK; four brothers Wayne Griffey of Carthage, MO, David Griffey of Edmond, Peter Griffey of Oklahoma City, OK, and Roy Griffey of Lufkin, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Mulhall with Pastor James Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Mulhall. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Mulhall, 204 North McMillan Street, Mulhall, OK 73063.
