Wanda Irene Branson
(December 3, 1925 - May 13, 2014)

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014 Wanda Irene (Norris) Branson, 88, transitioned sweetly from this life to the next on the same Logan County farm where she was born on December 3, 1925 to Grover and May (Sade) Norris.

Wanda grew up loving God, her parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Upon graduating from Crescent High School in 1944 she considered a nursing career, as many of her classmates were going off to war, but encouraged by her father she agreed to accept a position as a teacher in a one room school for just one year. Wanda, an 18 year old teacher, fell in love with her first group of students, especially the two first graders and never looked back. She would alternate years of teaching with years of attending college at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater and eventually earned a Masters Degree in Education and a Lifetime Teaching Certificate from the State of Oklahoma. Wanda loved teaching children to read and spent a total of 33 years in a profession that brought her joy and blessed many children in Crescent, Marshall, and Guthrie. She loved each of her students and could remember things about each one. Wanda also enjoyed quilting, her friends and writing books for her oldest grandchildren.

In 1957 Wanda made what see calls her best and happiest decision of her life and married her childhood friend Luther Branson. Together they raised four children on the farm and taught them most importantly to obey God and to love and serve the people in their lives. She was a member of the Crescent Church of Christ and taught Sunday School as long as she was able.

Survivors include her husband Luther of the home; two daughters, Kaye Branson and Gaye Backer and husband Ron both of Crescent; two sons, Steve and wife Carla of Amarillo, TX and Bruce Branson of Mulhall, OK; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant brother.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Crescent Church of Christ with Gene Owen and Jay Roney officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakview Cemetery in Lovell. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent.
