Funeral For War Veteran On Tuesday

Funeral services for C. A. "Daddy" Parks, 103-year Meridian Civil War veteran who died in the local hospital Saturday, will be held at the Smith funeral home here at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in the McKinley cemetery near Meridian.

Admitted to the hospital here Thanksgiving day. Mr. Parks succumbed to a chest ailment, said attending physicians. He was reported to be the oldest man living in Logan County.

Born at Wellington, Ohio, January 8, 1835, Mr. Parks served with the 180th Ohio infantry, company K., in the Civil War, and participated in Sherman's historical march to the sea.

Came to State in '93

He came to Oklahoma in 1893, homesteading east of Meridian, and was well known throughout the county.

Enfeebled, but active until about a month ago when he contracted the fatal illness. Mr. Parks attended the join reunion of Union and Confederate Civil war veterans held at Gettysburg, Pa., last summer. Only one other beteran older than Mr. Parks attended the reunion.

Was Alert

Alert of mind, he was interested in world affairs and liked to discuss them up until his Illness.

He is survived by three sons, Halley and Dale, of Meridian, and another son John, of Vinita, and a daughter who lives at Independence, Kan.

Other survivors include 27 grand children, 41 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.
