Born: January 15, 1954
Died: October 13, 2011

Daniel James Curtis was born January 15, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Robert and Grace (Van Laan) Curtis. He went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2011 at Mercy Hospital Logan County after a courageous battle with cancer. He attended elementary school and high school in Hudsonville, Michigan, graduating from high school in 1972. He then worked for three years before attending Frontier School of the Bible in LaGrange, Wyoming, from which he graduated in 1978. It was while he was at Frontier that he met his future wife, Kay Eleson. They were married May 25, 1979, at the Berean Fundamental Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Children born to this union are Ginger, Candi, Tim, and Charity.

After getting married, Dan worked as a carpenter for a year before he and Kay moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma, to fill the position of area missionaries with American Missionary Fellowship. Dan directed Camp JOY Bible Camp, taught Bible studies, and pastored at the Meridian Community Church and Potter Community Church. He enjoyed using his carpentry skills to be a blessing to others.

Dan is survived by his wife, Kay, of the home; four children - Ginger Hofmann and husband, Marty, of Guthrie; Candi Doolittle and husband, Mark, of Guthrie; Timothy Curtis and wife, Mia, of Guthrie: and Charity Curtis of the home; three brothers - Dave Curtis and wife, Becky, of Hamilton, Michigan; Paul Curtis and wife, Luann, of Pickford, Michigan; and Bob Curtis and wife, Gloria, of Allendale, Michigan; four sisters – Gloria DeFouw and husband, Les, of Gallatin, Missouri; twin sister Linda Craton and husband, Robert, of Upland, Indiana; Mary Kuyt and husband, Tony, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Pat Bowerman and husband, Jeff, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three granddaughters - Keziah Hofmann, Tirzah Hofmann, and Kaye Lyn Curtis: five grandsons - Ezekiel Hofmann, Boaz Hofmann, Justin Doolittle, Shane Doolittle, and Jax Curtis; forty-seven nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by a nephew, Nathan Curtis, his father, Robert Curtis, and his mother, Grace Curtis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2011 at First Southern Baptist Church with Reverend Van Hudson of Abell Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrie Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Monday, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
