Virginia Gray
(January 30, 1916 - November 25, 2013)

Virginia Gray, 97, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at her home in Buckeye, AZ. Virginia Authena Gardner Gray was born January 30, 1916 on a farm near the town of Tonkawa, OK the daughter of James E and Minnie (McCanless) Gardner.

Virginia married Logan Gray on May 17, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV. In May of 2012 they celebrated 70 years of marriage.

She was a 1933 graduate of Crescent High School, Crescent, OK and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma 1939, Norman, OK. She was a retired teacher having taught 28 years. Virginia started teaching in one room school houses. She taught in Marshall, OK; Hope, IN; Page, AZ; Orofino, ID and Buckeye, AZ. While in Orofino, ID Virginia and her husband operated Clearwater Court. Virginia belonged to the Crescent Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She belonged to several clubs and organizations in Buckeye, AZ. She was an active member of the Community Church of Buckeye UMC.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Logan, her parents and all her siblings. Her siblings were Ethel Gardner, Georgia Culp, Beulah Hewitt, Lauretta Keele and Luretta Gardner. She was also preceded in death by a nephew James Kimberling, 2 nieces Jacquelynn Horn and Connie Pardue and one great nephew Billy Horn.

She leaves loving memories with her son, James Gray of Buckeye, AZ, twin nieces Vicki (Robert) Nealis of Crescent, OK and Nicki Keele of Crescent/Tulsa, OK. Two nephews Larree Phelan of Coloma, CA and Steve Kimberling of Lewiston, ID. Virginia had 7 great nephews and one great niece.

Funeral Services were held Saturday December 7, 2013 at the Community Church of Buckeye UMC Buckeye, AZ with Pastor Bob Lind officiating. Cremation services provided by the Neptune Society of Phoenix, AZ. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday December 15, 2013 at Abernathy-Aaron Funeral Home Chapel with burial of ashes in the Crescent Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy-Aaron funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 515, Crescent, OK 73028.
