Ruby Lee Coker

Ruby Lee Coker, of Guthrie passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015. She was born October 11, 1928 to John Wesley & Susie Catherine (Carrier) Harraman on a farm north of Guthrie.

Ruby attended Clarkson school through eighth grade, then graduated from Coyle High School in 1946. She worked in Stillwater before her marriage to Bobby Dean Coker on January 31, 1948. Bob and Ruby lived and worked in Crescent, Ok for 53 years.

Ruby worked at Armour’s Insurance Agency for several years before she began working for Crescent Public Schools. She then retired from her position as the Superintendents’ secretary after 20 years of service in 1988. Ruby enjoyed many years of gardening, sewing, cooking and fishing trips to the lake with longtime friends June and Glenn Brock. Ruby was a member of the First Christian Church in Crescent until she moved to Guthrie in 2002 and became active in the First Christian Church there, participating in the choir and as a greeter. Ruby was a long time member of the Crescent Alpha Study Club and the Guthrie PEO.

Ruby lived her life for her family. She was a devoted mother of three, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of five. Her grandchildren remember her as a lighthearted playmate. Ruby is remembered for being a very caring hostess and serving her guests a bounty of food and love. Her sweetness and kind hearted nature will be greatly missed. Along with numerous friends, she enjoyed the company of a very special friend, Hop Lewis. They had many enjoyable evenings dancing and dining in the past ten years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, sister Mary Katherine Frost, brother Charles (Chuck) Harraman, son-in-law Kevin Hennigh, grandson Kale Wayne Hennigh Powell and a baby granddaughter.

She is survived by, son Gary Coker and wife Vicki of Moore, son Gale Coker and wife Trish of Jay, daughter Nancy Powell of Edmond and son-in-law Doug Powell of Guthrie. Grandchildren: Colbie and Jennifer Coker of Claremore and their children Braydon, Hayleigh and Cayleb, Corie and Colby Dawn Coker of Guthrie and their children Makaya and Klay Dean, Kyla Coker of Dallas, Kynsey and Mark Skaggs of Tuttle and Paige Powell of Edmond, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 on Friday, January 16 at the First Christian Church of Guthrie. Interment will follow at Crescent Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be held Thursday, 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Friday, 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.
