Geneva Gertrude Walker Melson

Geneva Gertrude Melson was born April 26, 1922 in Midlothian, Oklahoma to John and Martha (Reddell) Walker. She was the youngest of 10 children and passed away August 28, 2020 in Hennessey at the age of 98.

Geneva married Richard E Melson December 19, 1940 in Bristow and raised 3 children together. They ran a dairy farm SE of Chandler for many years. Geneva was a long-time active member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Chandler. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, garage sales and all things angels. Most of all Geneva, “Granny”, loved spending time with her family.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Walker; husband of 65 years, Richard E Melson; sister-in-law, Gary Thornton; and her (9) siblings. Survivors include her son, Harvey Wayne Melson and wife Linda of Chandler; daughters, Phyllis Thornton of Elk City, Martha Faye Taggart and husband Tim of Hennessey; (7) grandchildren, Tracy (Juan) Sollis of Hennessey, April (Erik) Wright of Chandler, Nolan Thornton, Lori (Rusty) Williams both of Elk City, Eddie Taggart of Hennessey, Dana (Ron) DeCrow of Edmond, Philip (Mechelle) Taggart of Birchwood, TN; (5) great-grandchildren, Mauricia Taggart (Kendrick) LeBlanc, Zane Taggart both of Hennessey, Jake Taggart USAF, Jude Taggart US Navy, Christian (Madison) Solis of Ames; (4) great-great-grandchildren, Olivia Henson of Hennessey, Merick Sollis of Ames, Everett LaBlanc and Alex LaBlanc both of Norman; along with other family and friends.

A graveside funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
