MARION GORDON YOUNG
1932 - 2014

Marion Gordon Young was born September 2, 1932 in Davenport near the same place he died on May 19, 2014.
He was the son of Elisha Daniel “Fuzz” Young and Nellie Brewer Young.
Gordon lived in the Davenport/Kendrick area, attending Pleasant Hill School.
He lived with his grandparents Jake and Martha during most of the depression and pre-war days.
His uncle Joe nicknamed him Sunny because his face lit up like the sun when he grinned. He was as tough as a coconut shell on the outside and soft as a marshmallow on the inside. Generous with others to a fault, but would work a week to fix a $2.00 part for himself. He was first in line to help others, but dead last to ask for himself.
Gordon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military service he spent the rest of his lifetime in the trucking and oil field.
There is not a highway in America that he had not traveled.
He and Rachel built a new home on the farm homesteaded by his great grandfather in 1891. This is where he raised cattle with his wife until his death.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Nell and Allen Bradley; and Ed Young; brothers, Arlen Bradley, Danny Young, Larry Young, Richard Young and Kenneth Young and sisters, Betty Jo Young and Edna Ruth Young.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Rachel of the home; daughters, Anne and husband Dan Bouquet of Atlanta, Georgia; Latisha and husband, Ariel King of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, David Bouquet, Tiffany Bouquet and Ariel King IV; brothers, Tommy Young and Jimmy Young; along with special cousin, Joe Young of Chandler; and friend, Beth Ann Duffy-Stouts.
A funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Southern Baptist Church in Chandler with interment following in the Kendrick Cemetery in Kendrick.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
