ROBERT EARL WOOD
1916 - 2016


Robert Earl Wood was born on September 6, 1916, in Okfuskee County, and departed this life on Sunday, November 27, 2016, in Meeker, Oklahoma, at the age of 100.
Robert, the son of Robert W. and Flora Stiles Wood, was a long-time resident of Meeker.
Farming was an important part of his life which began with working on his childhood farm and continued with his return to farming when he purchased an 80 acre farm in Payson with his first wife of 37 years, the late Donna Wilson Wood. He further expressed his value of farming and investing in his community by donating calves to the FFA program in Meeker.
Robert proudly served three and a half years as an engineer/gunner on a B-25 for the United States Army and continued his service by completing aircraft mechanic school and was then stationed at bases in San Antonio, South Carolina, Florida and South America before being sent to the Philippines. He returned to Oklahoma and worked three jobs at Wilson’s Meat, Wood’s Paving Co. and the U.S. Post Office. Robert retired from the post office after 25 years of service and made farming his full-time job.
He married Estell Chesser Wood on September 19, 1987 at Garden Grove.
Robert was an active member of Meeker First Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Robert’s parents, first wife, Donna Wilson Wood, sons Bert, Richard and Danny Wilson, brothers Archie, Albert and Ross, and sisters, Helen, Irene, Alice and Zadie preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years Estell Wood of the home; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Barbara Wood of Meeker and Gene and Debbie Wood of Foster, Oklahoma, daughters and sons-in-law Susie and Rusty Denney of Meeker, Nancy and Larry Bradley of Meeker, JoAnn and Milton Dickson of Shawnee, Judy Guinn of Shawnee, Diane Manley of Choctaw and Janet Hagar of Meeker; sister-in-law Wilma Wood of Carnegie; daughter-in-law Ruth Wilson numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
The Wood family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Meeker with Pastor Tommy Wood and Rev. Joe Jones officiating.
Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery.
The Wood family would like to thank Emerald Hospice for their special care that they extended. Robert’s family has requested that donations be made to the Baptist Childrens Home.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
