ERNEST ON WONG III
1969 - 2015


Ernest "Ernie" On Wong, III was born July 28, 1969 and transited August 22nd, 2015. His father was Ernest On Wong, Jr. and his mother is Landis McClellan.
He was raised by his aunt Netha Wong Chir in Monterey Park, California. His youth and his life were always close to the ocean and the land. He enjoyed his family's 24 foot boat and spent many days on Catalina Island.
As a teen he was an eagle scout. As a youth he was trained and worked for California Conservation Corps. Having moved to northern California, he worked at salmon stream bed restoration. He was a crewman and fished commercially out of Eureka, California. In winter he worked at crab fishing.
He gardened commercially. Eventually his day job was driving for Campbell Trucking Company, which supplied Trader Joe stores.
In his late thirties he reconnected to his birth mother in Oklahoma. He was fascinated that he was Sac and Fox. From his early forties he learned everything he could about his newfound heritage. Every spring he came to Oklahoma to help his relatives with Spring ceremonies. He was always willing to do hard work. He participated in all tribal activities when he came to visit his mother's family and clan.
He enjoyed food and he helped people with their gardens and taught them new techniques for better production.He was a fabulous cook. He loved lightning and thunder and rain. His life was cut short by cancer, but he left a legacy of kindness, good nature, energy and sharing with all of us he left behind.
His mother is Landis McClellan and father Ernest On Wong, Jr. {deceased}. His brother is Jon Chir, his wife Michelle and their sons Jake and Ethan. His sister is Janet Chir Marquez, husband deceased, children are Nikki and Derek. His uncles and sunts are Wallace McClellan, Jr., Merlin McCiellan {deceased}, Colbert McClellan and wife Jane, Marcia McClellan Mclain and husband Michael, Aunt Melissa Jennings and her son Nicholaus, Uncle Dennis Jennings and Auntie Gwen Wilburn. He also leaves cousins Kevin McClellan and wife Nancy, and children Kyle and Jack, cousin, Michael McClellan and wife Allison, and their sons, Jamie and Logan, cousin, Deanne Hartwick and her son Zachary.
He is predeceased by his grandfather, Wallace "Buster" McClellan and Lenna Mae Rushing McClellan. They met as students at Oklahoma Baptist University in the 1930's. He is a descendant of the Kakak and BigWalker families.
He requested traditional Sac and Fox services, which will commence on Tuesday evening at the Traditional House on the southwest corner of the Sac and Fox Reservation on State Highway 99, five miles south of Stroud, Oklahoma.
He will be buried at the Sac and Fox Nation Cemetery.
