LAURA MAE WHIPKEY
1914 - 2009


Laura Mae Tracy Whipkey, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Linwood Village Nursing Home at the age of 94 years.
The daughter of the late Orpha Tracy and Mary Belle Meeker Tracy, Laura was born on November 1, 1914 southeast of Cushing in Lincoln County. She was reared and educated in the Cushing area, graduating from Cushing High School in 1933.
Laura was united in marriage to Orville Whipkey on May 26, 1934 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and to this union one daughter, Patsy was born.
Following high school, Laura worked for P.W.A. and F.E.R.A. offices in Stillwater and later worked for William’s Flower Shop & Nursery in Cushing.
Laura was baptized into the Presbyterian Church here in Cushing in 1933 and continued to stay active there until her health prevented her to. In her spare time as she was able she enjoyed working in the flower garden, attending church, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her four grandchildren, David Biswell, Phillip Biswell, William Biswell and Jill Biswell; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Laura was preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy Biswell; seven brothers, Lawrence Tracy, Leroy Tracy, Leonard Tracy, Lloyd Tracy, Luis Tracy, Clyde Tracy and Cecil Tracy; and one sister, Edith.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma and will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 in the Presbyterian Church in Cushing with Reverend Tom Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow in the Avery Cemetery, Cushing, Oklahoma.
