DORENA MAE SWEARINGEN
1923 - 2014


Dorena Mae Decker Swearengin, former Meeker, Oklahoma, resident, was born September 14, 1923, in Sparks, Oklahoma, and departed this life September 30, 2014, at her home in Midwest City, Oklahoma, at the age of 91.
Dorena was the daughter of Charley W. and Bonnie Cunningham Decker.
On July 29, 1939, in Sparks, she married Francis Farrell Swearengin. Their union lasted a remarkable 71 years.
Dorena was a homemaker and a leader in the First Assembly of God Church in Meeker. She played an especially important role in the church’s early years, assisting her father, who was the founder.
Dorena was preceded in death by her parents and husband, one daughter, Francena Sabouri; two brothers, Cecil Decker and Charles Decker; and one sister, Iola Gatlin.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Swearengin of New York, New York; one brother, Melvin Decker of Edmond, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Greg Sabouri and Shawn Sabouri of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; as well as other relatives and many friends.
The family would like to thank Dorena’s caregivers Linda Collins and Kim Bakeman for their loving service and steadfast friendship.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the First Assembly of God Church in Meeker, Oklahoma.
Burial will follow at White Dove Cemetery, Sparks, Oklahoma, with Rev. Charles Pearcy officiating.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
