GILBERT LEROY STEWART
1911 - 2008


Gilbert Leroy Stewart, age 96, of Stillwater went to his new home in Heaven, Sunday morning, April 20, 2008 in Stillwater.
Mr. Stewart was born on September 18, 1911 in Tryon, Oklahoma, the son of Fred and Claretta Mae Smith Stewart.
He attended Valley Queen and Sandy Land Schools near Tryon.
In 1932 he married Elsie Wiley. They had five children, Donald, Norma, Leslie, Jerry and Donna.
During this time he lived and worked in Oklahoma and California.
Elsie preceded him in death on May 13, 1953.
In 1960, he was united in marriage to Goldie Shaver on September 25, 1960.
He lived in Tulsa from 1960 until 1978 where he worked for the Tulsa School District. Upon retirement they moved to 104 NE 5th Street in Perkins.
He was a Deacon at the Perkins Baptist Church for at least 20 years and he also drove the Church Bus.
His funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater and will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the First Baptist Church at Perkins with the Reverend Albert May officiating.
Interment will follow in the Carney Cemetery.
He moved to Stillwater a year ago.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Goldie of the home in Stillwater; a son, Les and wife Sharon of Carney; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; three brothers, Robert of Oklahoma City, Fred of Muskogee and Leroy of Stillwater; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elsie and four children, Donald, Norma, Jerry and Donna and several brothers and sisters.
