LENORA ELIZABETH STEIN
1926 - 2014

Lenora Elizabeth Lorenz Stein was born in Wellston November 24, 1926 to Emil Adolph Lorenz and Emilge Louise Kirch Lorenz.
She passed away April 11, 2014 in Edmond at the age of 87.
Lenora attended Wellston Public Schools, graduating in 1944.
She grilled hamburgers at the local café owned and operated by her Aunt Martha.
Lenora enjoyed her home economics classes where she learned to sew. She also enjoyed shorthand and especially typing.
Upon graduation, she attended Hills Business College in Oklahoma City and lived with family working at Montgomery Ward to pay for room and board. She later worked for American National Insurance Company moving up to office manager. She rode the bus home almost every weekend and rode back to the city on Sunday evenings with the Lutheran Missionary-at-large pastor.
On her birthday in 1946, Lenora married Ernest Herman Stein. She quit her job to be a “farmer’s wife”. They sold a little cream from their Holstein cows but milked mostly for their own use. Later they upgraded their cattle to Herefords. They also raised corn, cotton, wheat, alfalfa, pecans, strawberries, and ran an egg business. Lenora always raised a large vegetable and fruit garden.
At St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lenora led the congregation in music even when there was no organist. She served as Ladies’ Circle LWML/Alter Guild president and secretary/treasurer of the local Aid Association for Lutheran Branch.
Lenora served several positions including clerk of the Lincoln County Election Board precinct #8 for 37 years.
In the Christian home of Lenora and Ernest Stein, they instilled to their children a strong sense of honesty and fairness in all aspects of daily living. Their ancestors come from a firm Lutheran history of faith in the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and prayed for that heritage to continue not only in their present but future generations.
Lenora was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Herman Stein; son, Ernie Lee Stein; grandson, Dewayne Kenneth Stein; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Anna Lorenz; and brother, Louis Lorenz.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Roxie Stein; and Alvin and Debbie Stein, all of Wellston; grandchildren and their spouses, Carrie and Kevin Barnes of Edmond; Brian and Amanda Stein of Wellston; Kyle and Amanda Stein of Tulsa; Autumn and Rance Pappan of Broken Arrow; great-grandchildren, Ashton Barnes, Ethan Barnes, Eli Barnes, Leyton Stein, Derek Stein and Brock Pappan; and sister-in-law, Velma Lorenz of Wellston along with other family and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wellston with interment following at the Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
