SIDNEY DUANE SMITH
1938 - 2014


Sidney Duane Smith was born on August 9, 1938, in Meeker, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Thursday, December 4, 2014, in Apache, Oklahoma, at the age of 76, after a lengthy battle with PSP.
Duane, the son of Sidney Roy and Pansy Helen Broyles Smith, was a life-long resident of Prague, Oklahoma until October 2013, when he and his wife, Bonnie, relocated to Apache, Oklahoma.
Duane was a graduate of Prague High School, graduating in 1956.
He attended Murray State College receiving an Associate of Science Degree in Engineering. He then attended Oklahoma City University, working toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Oklahoma State University, where he pursued a degree in civil engineering.
Duane worked as a surveyor for the Oklahoma Highway Department from 1961 to 1972. He served as a Joint Venture Analyst, Drilling Foreman and Administrative Supervisor while working for Kerr-McGee Corporation from 1972 to 1991. After retiring from Kerr-McGee, Duane pursued various careers until his final retirement in 2009.
He married Bonnie Carol Smith on May 5, 1961, at Prague United Methodist Church. Duane and Bonnie were married for 53 years and from this union they were blessed with four children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Pansy Smith of Prague.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Smith of the home in Apache; sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Cathy Smith of Arlington; and Clayton and Jennifer Smith of Stroud; daughters and sons-in-law, Gwendolyn and Clint Mindemann of Apache; and Samantha and John Layden of Newcastle; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Tish Mindemann of Apache; Caleb and Stacy Mindemann of Whitehouse, Texas; Rick and Sarah {Mindemann} Dailey of Apache; Martha Mindemann of Bowie, Texas; Keelan Layden and Stefan Layden of Newcastle; and Ashlyn Smith and Cody Smith of Stroud; three great grandchildren, Rilee and Korri Mindemann of Whitehouse, Texas; and Matthias Dailey of Apache; sister and brother-in-law, Florita and Carl Wyatt of Konawa; as well as other family and friends.
The Smith family will receive friends on Sunday, December 7, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Prague with Rev. Dr. Bill Schneider officiating.
Interment will follow at Prague Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
