LEOLA MAE SMITH
1920 - 2006


Leola Mae Miller Smith, lifelong resident of the Cushing area, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at her residence at the age of 85 years.
The daughter of the late Walter F. Miller and Leola Prough Miller, Leola was born on December 26, 1920 in Carney, Oklahoma and was reared in Lincoln and Payne counties.
She was united in marriage to Roy Richard Smith on October 21, 1936 in Chandler, Oklahoma. To this union six children, Pat, F. M., Sharon, Linda, Carol and Sue were born. Roy preceded her in death in July of 1985.
Leola helped Roy farm and they ran the Smith’s Laundry in Perkins from 1955 to 1958. Her greatest joy was raising her six children.
She attended church in Agra and Tryon.
She also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include five daughters, Pat Hopkins and her husband Willard of Perkins; Sharon Mays and her husband Alex of Tulsa; Linda Jones and her husband Johnny of Oklahoma City; Carol Disney of Durant; and Sue Leader and her husband Rick of Perkins; one son, F. M. Smith and his wife Janice of Wagoner; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Forrest “Blackie” Miller and his wife Lee of Bixby; one sister, Flossie Kyser of Chandler; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Robert Miller, George Miller, Jack Miller, Richard Miller, David Miller and Gerald Miller and two sisters, Ruth Chastain and Dolly Jones.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 26, 2006 in the Wellston Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Charles Wheeler officiating.
