H. B. SKAGGS
1933 - 2014


H. B. "Bob" Skaggs was born March 4, 1933 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to M. H. Skaggs and Nina McGlaughlin.
He passed away November 20, 2014 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 81.
Bob moved to Carney in 1950 and bought a farm which has ever since been referred to as Skaggs Farm or Skaggs Corner. He and his brother, Bill Skaggs, operated a dairy for 22 years. They sold the dairy during the government buyout in 1983 but continued their partnership for 50 years throughout other ventures.
Bob was a volunteer firefighter, class parent/sponsor for Carney Schools, active member of the Carney Round-up Club, helped start the Tri-County Fair, and enjoyed spending time at the Carney Senior Center where he played dominos. He raised a huge garden and gave most of his produce away.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, M. H. and Nina; wife of over 52 years, Gerry {Best}; granddaughter, Amy Sanders; and grandson, Gerald Best.
Survivors include his daughters, Sue and her husband Larry Berry of Chandler; Peggy and her husband Johnny Dornan of Carney; son, Gerald and his wife Shirley Best of Chandler; sister, Joann and her husband James Pickett of Carney; five grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren plus one more on the way; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2014 in the Carney Assembly of God Church with interment following in the Carney Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
