VERA MARGARET SIMMONS-MANN
1934 - 2015

Vera Margaret Massey Simmons-Mann entered the world November 12, 1934 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
She passed away January 19, 2015 in Oklahoma City at the age of 80.
The daughter of Charles Walter Massey and Ora Vera Cox Massey, she joined seven siblings.
Margaret married John Henry Simmons on July 24, 1952 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. They were blessed with three children, Vera Eileen, David Glenn and John Dale.
Margaret and John moved to Davenport, Oklahoma in the early 1950’s where she retired as the Cafeteria Manager for Davenport Public Schools. During that time, she fed thousands of hungry kids, always with a huge smile on her face.
A member of the Davenport First Baptist Church, she served the Lord in the choir and as a Sunday school teacher but her teaching went way beyond Sundays.
Margaret earned her high school GED in 1973 and became an official member of the Davenport Alumni Association in 1993. Both honors she was proud of. Her newspaper column “Mann about Town” has been published for many years in the New Era Newspaper.
She loved to sing at the local music shows and 5th Sunday singing.
Traveling with her second husband Bill Mann, she enjoyed seeing the United States and meeting people, fishing, telling jokes, working in her plate garden, holding grandkids and great grandkids.
Simple pleasures, a big smile, a life well lived. Loved all - Loved by all.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ora; first husband, John Henry Simmons; seven siblings, Albert Massey, Harrison Massey, Clyde Massey, Hazel Hunt-Simmons, Pansy Stephens, Wilma Randell and Geraldine Simmons; three grandchildren, John Charles Simmons, Veronica Renee Simmons and Kenneth Michael Simmons; and son-in-law, Donald Hildreth.
Survivors include her three children, Vera Simmons-Hildreth, David Simmons, John Dale Simmons and his wife Pamela; all of Davenport; five grandchildren, Tiffany and her husband Rob Dupont; Tonia and her husband James Lowery; Melissa Wadsworth; Eric Hildreth and Katie; and Beverly Lewis, all of Davenport; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Davenport.
Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church of Davenport followed by burial at Davenport Cemetery.
Services under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
