VIOLETTA MAXINE RUMINER
1931 - 2015


Violetta Houston was born on November 28, 1931 in Fallis, Oklahoma to Lewis and Lea Melissa Houston. She was the youngest of ten children.
She passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In 1949, at the age of 17, she married Kelley J. Ruminer. Kelley’s mother accompanied them to the Justice of the Peace and gave her permission for him to get married. Violetta had to swear to the Justice of the Peace that she was over 18 years old. She said that even though she was only 17, it was not a lie. She had the words “18 years old” written on a piece of paper that was in her shoe.
Kelley and Violetta were married for 56 years until his passing on January 20, 2005.
Together they raised four children, Diana, Roger, Timmy and Todd {Trudy}.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be well remembered for the loving care that she provided to her children and grandchildren.
She was blessed with eleven grandchildren, Cindy Wilson {Larry}, Fonzie Miller, Buffie Tucker {John}, Lucas Ruminer, Tricia Ruminer, Trent Ruminer {Jennifer}, Travis Ruminer, Katie Carter {Austin}, Tanner Ruminer, Chris Gunn {Theresa} and Bryan Ruminer; eleven great -grandchildren, Sarah Mowdy, Marissa Wilson, Sklya Hicks {Keith}, Kelsey Miller, Elizabeth Miller, Devin Laye, Heather Laye, Evan Laye, Raegen Romine, Braxton Ruminer and Harper Gunn; and one great-great- grandchild, Mya Love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by two sisters, Ada Ruth Shaffer and Nellie Neitman; all of her children, grandchildren, her great-great- grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Smith Memorial Chapel in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Carney Cemetery, Carney, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be held Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
