OPAL FAY STARLING REESE
1923 - 2013


Opal Fay was born July 30, 1923, on a farm southwest of Carney, Oklahoma. She was the eighth child of ten children born to William Thomas and Susie Elizabeth Starling.
She grew up in the Carney area where she met and married Donald Hackworth on October 4, 1941. To this union was born one son, Freddie.
Opal spent most of her years as a wife and homemaker, sharing her home with family and friends. She worked outside the home for her father-in-law in his grocery store in Tryon, and for Anthony’s grocery in Carney, and other part time jobs in Stillwater.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and active in her community, and also a member of the Assembly of God Church in Carney.
Opal married Jack Reese on October 16, 1981 and lived in Tucumcari, New Mexico for a number of years before returning to Carney, where she and Jack enjoyed retirement. She died on February 16 at the age of 89 and was laid to rest at the Carney cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Starling; mother Susie; five sisters, Bessie Davis, Tressie Flanigan, Myrtle Kennedy, Lura Hagar and Irma Starling and three brothers; Lawson, Roma and Noel Starling.
She is survived by her brother, Elgin Starling and his wife Betty of Edmond; son, Freddie Hackworth and his wife Donna of Purcell; stepsons, Dickie Reese and his wife Evelyn of Perkins; Jackie Reese and his wife Terry of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren; seven great grand children; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Assembly of God Church in Carney with interment following in the Carney Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
