MARY JANE REED
1924 - 2014


Mary Jane Porter Reed, a longtime Payne and Lincoln county resident, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the Chandler Nursing Home at the age of 90 years.
The daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Porter and Florence Elizabeth Tibbett Porter, Mary Jane was born on January 31, 1924 in Chandler, Oklahoma.
She was reared and educated in the Agra area, graduating from Agra High School.
Mary Jane was united in marriage to Merel Reed August 22, 1943 in Tryon, Oklahoma just prior to him being stationed in Hawaii while he served in the United States Army. Following Merel's time in the Army, Mary Jane and their family lived in several communities which included stays in Cushing, California, Perry, Stillwater, Perkins, and eventually settling in Cushing. During that time she worked at Ralph's Packing and OSU Bakery.
She was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Parkland as a young woman.
In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Wayne Reed and wife, Sharon of Agra; Carol Stephens of Broken Arrow; Lois Swart of Cushing; and Terry Reed and wife, Mary of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Minnie Molloy of Cushing; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Merel; one daughter, Mary Lou Reed; one granddaughter, Sonya Korene Ward and ten brothers and sisters.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2014 in the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, Parkland, Oklahoma.
Burial will follow in the Flynn Cemetery, Cushing, Oklahoma.
