GAROLD F. REED
1923 - 2012

Garold F. Reed, retired farmer and service station owner, passed away early Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years.
The son of the late Arthur Reed and Carrie Arabella Wiseley Reed, Garold was born on January 5, 1923 south of Agra, Oklahoma and received his early education in the Columbia School, southwest of Agra. He wanted to go to high school, but his father insisted that he stay home and work the fields and milk. He still found time to play baseball every chance he got, and played catcher on a New York Yankee team. At this time Uncle Sam threw a wrench in everything to the World War II, ruining his chances to play professional ball.
While recovering from serious wounds that he received in the Army, he met his life mate on December 9, 1945. {67 years ago this past Saturday}. He married Ina B. Tucker on June 2, 1946 and to this union three sons were born, Richard, Drew and Keith.
Garold was a hard worker and loved to play amateur baseball.
He worked several years driving a pile-driver, building bridges in Kansas before working and later owning a full service filling station. The couple came back to this area in 1972, buying a farm close by where he grew up in Agra.
He was baptized in the Agra Baptist Church where his parents were charter members, having helped with the beginning of the church. He loved music and enjoyed playing the harmonica.
He enjoyed working with wood, especially cedar and made many beautiful pieces of furniture, chests, eagle wall hanging, clocks and book shelves.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II, and received a Purple Heart for injuries received during the War. He was also a member of the Donaldson-Walker American Legion Post 108 in Cushing.
Garold had a lot of illness over the past several years, but always had a sense of humor and loved people.
He is survived by his wife, Ina B. Reed of the home; three sons, Richard Reed and his wife Roberta of Los Angeles, California; Drew Reed and his wife Linda of Wichita, Kansas; and Keith Reed and his wife Debbie of Carney, Oklahoma; one brother Merel and Jane Reed of Cushing; one sister Roberta and Willis Drake of Ohio; six grandchildren; sevn great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church at Agra.
Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the funeral home.
