CLINTON W. McMILLEN
1879 - 1904

"Clinton W. McMillen was born at Glenwood, Ia., on February 10th, 1879, and died last Monday morning at the age of 25 years, 2 months, and one day.
At the age of one year the family moved to Indianola, Ia., and lived there for 2 or 3 years. Then they lived at Perry, Iowa, for 5 years.
His father was in the implement business and was sent by the company to Victor, Ia. Here they lived for six years and here Clint got his literary education in the Victor High School. Here he got his business training also. It would fall short of the facts in the case to limit his education to what he learned in the high school; for that was only the beginning of his literary attainments.
He was a great reader and student of history--both ancient and modern. Perhaps few men are as well informed on ancient history as he was in my conversations with him. I discovered by the authors he quoted that he had been through many books of real worth.
So many of our young people of today read little else than the light, trashy stories of the magazines. Clint went deeper than that.
He came to Oklahoma and located at Blackwell in 1897. In 1900 he came to Stroud and became the successful manager of the Stroud Hardware Company, which position he held till his decease.
He was made a Master mason April 20, 1901, three years ago, and was an officer in the lodge when he....of our city council. He was of a very benevolent disposition always willing to help those in need.
About seven weeks ago he took to his bed. It was hoped that his trip to Kansas would be beneficial but alas! Alas! He was rational to the end. He knew he was dying. Taking his beloved wife by the hand and with a smile of recognition, he passed away.
Survived by his brother, his wife, father.
The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. J. A. {can't read name} and Rev. H. G. Ross. The Masons and K. of Ps had charge and laid the body of their departed brother away in our city cemetery. A large concourse of sympathetic friends attended these last sad rites."
