CORTLIN BENJAMIN HORTON
1924 - 2011

Cortlin Benjamin Horton, of Meeker, departed from this world September 4, 2011.
He survived the Great Depression and was a German Prisoner of War for nine months as a result of supporting General George Patton in the European theater of World War II. Cortlin was awarded three Bronze Stars for individual acts.
His World War II experience affected his entire life after returning home from the war.
He worked part-time farming and full-time as a machinist at Tinker Air Force Base. Cortlin enjoyed hunting, raising cattle, watching baseball and horse racing. He most enjoyed his Browning shotguns and, later in life, his Lincoln Town Car.
The turbulent experiences in World War II did not keep Cortlin from providing for his family and working diligently throughout his life. He consistently did things his own way and without much outside guidance.
He is survived by one son, Newlyn Horton and wife Elaine of Waterloo, Illinois; step-daughter Joyce Alsip and husband Tom of Oklahoma City; and numerous cousins and friends.
Cortlin’s wife, Edna Mae Jackson, preceded him in passing.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 8, at the Mammoth Baptist Church of Meeker, with burial to follow at Rossville Cemetery of Rossville, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Please send contributions to the American Red Cross in lieu of flowers.
