HAZEL MARIE HERRMANN
1924 - 2013


Hazel Marie Harris Herrmann, former Cushing resident now of Galveston, Texas, passed away on April 3, 2013 at the age of 88 years.
The daughter of the late Fred Harris and Eva Reedy Harris, Hazel was born on October 8, 1924 in Avery, Oklahoma.
She was raised in the Avery and Agra area, graduating from Agra High School.
While attending business school, she was employed by Western Union Telegraph in Oklahoma City. She later worked at Cushing City Hall and Southwestern Bell.
Hazel was united in marriage to Eugene Herrmann on April 2, 1952 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They had two children, Gary Lee Herrmann and Cathy Jean Duncan. The couple owned and operated the Gibble Gas station in Wynona, Oklahoma for many years. They were co-owners of Herrmann and Ikenberry Oil Co. before returning to Cushing, Oklahoma. They have been living the last two years in Galveston.
Hazel was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Wynona and a founding member of the Victory Baptist Church in Pershing, Oklahoma. She was always active in the church, teaching Sunday School, helping with Vacation Bible School, and singing in the choir.
She was active in the Wynona Round-Up Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family; fishing with her grandkids, feeding the sea gulls at the beach; listening to music and singing. She always enjoyed helping others by visiting and sitting with friends that were sick, delivering meals on wheels, and anything else that anyone needed.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Eugene Herrmann of the home; son, Gary Herrmann and his wife, Debbie, of Lufkin, Texas; daughter, Cathy Duncan of Galveston, Texas; six grandchildren, Tamela Grass; Stephen Herrmann and his wife, Tara; Michael Herrmann; Lauren Dawson and her husband Ed; Jonathan Wilson; and Jami Germain and her husband Phil; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, James Harris of Cushing; one sister, Pauline Gillaspy and her husband Alvin of Somis, California; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Cook and Jennie Smith; and two brothers, Elmo Harris and Fred Harris.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Agra Baptist Church and will be officiated by Pastor Brian Myers.
Burial will follow in the Avery Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center.
