RUBY LEE HARMON
1911 - 2008

Ruby Lee Bradshaw Harmon, 97, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008. She was born March 11, 1911 near Wellston, Oklahoma.
Ruby grew up on a farm south of Wellston with her parents, John Patton and Martha Eidson Bradshaw, five brothers and five sisters. Of this large family only two of her siblings survive her, Eula Hall of Silver Spring, Maryland and Velda Stephanson of Munroe, North Carolina.
As a young woman Ruby moved to Oklahoma City where she met and married Charles Coy. They had three children; Arlis Coy and wife Aleta of Elk Grove, California; Jack Coy and wife Marlene of Gold River, California and Betty Coy Anderson of Oklahoma City.
Ruby later married Henry H. Harmon and had two children, Larry Harmon, deceased; and Danny Harmon and wife Ginger of Oklahoma City.
She is survived by four children and ten of her eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grand children.
Ruby loved being a homemaker and caring for her children. Like many other young women during World War II she worked at Douglass, now Tinker AFB, building airplanes. She was a riveter on the wing section and was recognized for her outstanding performance. After the war she resumed being a homemaker until well into her 50’s when she began working in children’s day care.
She worked at Mary Lee's Day Care near 25th and Western until she retired at about age 70.
She was dearly loved by her children, grand children and many nieces and nephews. She was the go-to person when problems arose or help was needed. She was caring and compassionate. Her happiness came from being around children and young people who she instilled strength, especially her daughter and grand-daughters.
Thanks to Sol Amor Hospice and Warr Acres Nursing Center for their compassionate care and her special niece, Gladys Erwin who sat with her many hours during her last illness. Special thanks to Ginger for her loving care and to Ann, Ginger's mom, for her love and attention to Ruby over many years.
A memorial service was held in December and Ruby's ashes will be interred in the Wellston Cemetery June 19 at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home, Wellston.
