GERALD MAURICE GUMAER
1923 - 2013

Gerald Maurice Gumaer, 89, went to meet his Savior on April 22, 2013. He was born September 14, 1923 to parents Ira Wayne and Winnie Dee Gumaer in Kendrick, Oklahoma.
He graduated from Kendrick High School in 1941. Gerald then attended a National Youth Administration radio school in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and extended his radio training in Ft. Worth, Texas. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps Service Group in Ft. Worth in December of 1942.
Gerald served as radio operator; teletype operator and cryptographer while in the service and was stationed in Casablanca, N. Africa during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Army in late November of 1945. Gerald graduated from Oklahoma A&M College {OSU} in 1949 with a BA degree in Advertising and Journalism.
Shortly after his discharge from the service he worked for the Guthrie Register News in the advertising department and also wrote a column for the paper but soon became interested in the back shop activities. This lead to his occupation as a print shop employee in pre-press operations and this took him to Ft. Worth, Texas; Washington, D.C.; Phoenix, Arizona; Los Angeles, California; Kingman, Arizona, and Oklahoma City in 1981.
While in Los Angeles, Gerald served as President of the Southern California Chapter of the International Graphoanalysis Society and concurrently as President of the Alhambra, California chapter of the Toastmasters club.
Gerald moved to Oklahoma City in late 1981 and worked for King Graphics for 30+ years. In his life, Gerald had worked in various fields including sign painting, car sales, as Chief Civil Deputy for the Mohave County, Arizona Sheriff's Department and also worked in a copper wire plant in Kingman, Arizona.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Ira Wayne and Winnie Gumaer, his son William in 1997, his wife, Dallas in 1998 and his sister Gwen in 1999.
He is survived by a host of family and friends including his "adopted" family Mike, Glory, Micah and Luke King, along with his niece and nephew Johnny and Gerrie Tatum of Piedmont, Oklahoma; niece and nephew on his wife's side Dolen and Charlene {Cookie} Romine of Virginia.
Gerald was a devout Christian who used every opportunity to pass on the love and message of the Lord to everyone who knew him. He attended Cathedral of Praise for many years and served as usher, a job that he dearly loved.
The family would like to thank Integris Hospice House for making his last days so blessed and special for all of us. The care and loving nature of the folks that work there are beyond measure.
Gerald loved the Lord, Church, OSU, the OKC Thunder and King Graphics. Those five things filled his life with tons of pride, joy and memories we will never forget. We love you Grandpappy and will miss you so very much.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2:00 pm. Friday April 26, 2013 at the Kendrick Cemetery in Kendrick, Oklahoma.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
