JANICE LANETTA GREENFIELD
1939 - 2016

Janice Lanetta Thompson was born in Oklahoma City on November 21, 1939 to Fred and Allie Thompson.
She grew up in the city and loved to paint and hang wallpaper with her Dad.
At the age of 16 years old, Janice married Alva Herrmann on December 31, 1955. For seven years they made their home on Highway 18 in the same house where Dwayne and Darlene live today, after this they moved to the home Alva built with the help of friends and family. They lived in this home for the rest of their married life together.
Alva had many occupations, mechanic, truck driver, farmer, dairyman and construction. In addition, he served on the school board for many years and as an ordained Bishop in the Church. Janice adapted to the many challenges of these endeavors with grace and strength.
In 1956 Janice {and Alva} were baptized into The General Assembly and Church of The Firstborn by Bother Bob Tibbett. In April 1957 Terry was born, the first of 5 children… The last was Kyle in December 1975. Through the years there were also many others that made their home with Janice and Alva.
Janice worked very hard to guide and serve not only those in her house, but was also ready to lend a hand to others in need when the opportunity was there. As if providing for the busy household, raising five children, and being on call at a moment’s notice to help Alva with the daily challenges were not enough, Janice felt a calling of her own. Janice served as a mid-wife and attended to many childbirths through the years. Janice’s endeavors and goals through the years were mostly about serving other people, from which she derived a great deal of satisfaction and joy.
Janice loved to paint, crochet, quilt, sew and work with her hands. Hospitality in her home was the standard, not the exception. She had a few trademarks, if you ever paid much attention to Alva’s pants…it was very common to see the holes patched with denim cut in the shape of a heart. Proverbs 31 was no mystery to her.
After Alva’s death in 2013 she grieved his passing, eventually she found a friend in Brother Earl “Bud” Greenfield, and they were married in December of 2015. Bud and Janice were able to find a lot of joy in the short time they had as husband and wife, it put a spring back in her step, and a twinkle in her eye.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Herrmann, parents, Fred and Allie Thompson, three brothers. Wendell, Ralph and Ralmon and daughter-in-law, Terri Ann.
She is survived by her husband, Earl “Bud” Greenfield, five children, Terry Herrmann and wife Diane, Linda Fick and husband Terry, Curtis Herrmann and wife Karla, Lora Jackson and husband Gerald and Kyle Herrmann and wife Courtney. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Parkland.
Brother Chris Britton and Brother Richard Wright will officiate.
Interment will follow at Parkland Cemetery, Parkland, Oklahoma.
Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Palmer Marler Funeral Home.
