ETHEL MAE BOWES
1927 - 2008


Ethel Mae Bowes, age 80, a longtime Cushing resident passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2008.
Ethel was born in Seminole October 15, 1927.
She moved to Lincoln County south of Cushing in about 1931. She attended Lone Oak School and later attended Stillwater Commercial Art in Central Area Vo-Tech.
In 1960 she married Arch Floyd. They had one daughter who died in 1974.
She married George W. Lowry. He died in 1976. In 1977 she married Charles E. Bowes who died in December of 1991.
Ethel lived in the Lindly homestead from 1931 until 1960 when she married Arch Floyd, moved to Tulsa for one year then resided in Stillwater until 1975. She moved back to the Lindly homestead.
Following a stroke, Ethel moved to Midwest City in 2001 to be with her cousin.
Ethel learned to play music on the guitar at 18 and began writing songs since the 1950's at this date totaling 30 or more. Her hobbies were art and rock collecting. She was a charter member ten years with Stillwater Sweet Adelines two years, with Cushing prospective chapter of Sweet Adelines and ten years past member of Stillwater Art Guild, and a present member of Stillwater Mineral and Gem Society, Stillwater Women of the Moose Lodge #1368 for eleven years, and Cushing Genealogical Society.
She enjoyed singing and playing music at the Senior Citizen Center in Cushing.
Ethel retired from O.S.U. food service in January 1992 after 18 1/2 years of work, while there she was employed in Central Bakery four years and Scott Parker Wentz Cafeteria fourteen years as a line server, teaching her to make garnishes for the line as well as creating many on her own.
Survivors include her mother. Martha Presley; niece. Judy Osment and husband. Jerry of Midwest City and numerous cousins and friends.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma and will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at the Flynn Cemetery.
