HARLEY DEAN BLACKBURN
1925 - 2008


Harley Dean Blackburn a lifelong Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2008 at the age of 82 years.
He was born October 22, 1925 in Cushing Oklahoma to Bro. Charley and Sis. Dollie Blackburn.
He enjoyed attending Cushing schools where he developed a love of learning. As a young man, Harley built a house in Cushing and moved into it with his parents and six sisters. He then built a second house next door and moved into it with his new bride.
Harley married Alta Evans on June 21, 1953. To this union was born three sons, Bryan Keith, Lowell Kent, and Sterling Scott. Harley and Alta lived their entire married life on Maple Street in Cushing, Oklahoma. Alta was the love of his life; they enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
He was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in 1944. He loved to sing those good old gospel songs.
Harley worked many different jobs to provide for his family. He was an honest hard worker. He had a great love for growing things and operated a green house for several years. In his later years, he drove a star route for the postal service. He truly enjoyed this job. After retiring, Harley enjoyed working in his wood shop. He made and repaired wood furniture.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Alta; one son, Scott; his parents Charlie and Dollie; one infant brother Ira; and five sisters, Frances Coker, Dorothy Patton, Thelma Patton, Freda Jacobs, and Eva House.
He is survived by two sons, Bryan Blackburn of Warner Robins, Georgia; Kent Blackburn and wife Debbie of Chandler; and three grandchildren, Chrystal Donaldson and husband Danny of Pawnee; Curtis Blackburn and wife Becky of Shawnee; and Heather Blackburn of Chandler, and one great granddaughter Jessica Donaldson of Pawnee; and one sister Edith Kyser of Cushing; many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Graveside service at Parkland Cemetery. Brother Tony Emery will officiate.
